APPT Cebu – Day 1B Report

The first day 1 flight of the APPT’s Cebu Main Event was a bit disappointing for the organizers, who had certainly hoped for a much more solid turn-out. Day 1B continued the event in the same note: the minimum initial expectation of the organizers was for around 200 players to show up, indeed a rather realistic goal considering that 246 players had played in this same event a year ago. Day 1A saw 81 players belly up to the tables of the Waterfront Hotel and Casino, while 77 more registered to play on Day 1B. 41 players earned their Day 2 tickets on Day 1A and 36 players survived on Day 1B. Day 1B was a similarly short affair: at the end of it, Milan Gurung emerged with the chip lead, having bagged 99.9k chips. Unlike on Day 1A, none of the Day 1B participants managed to bag more than 100k chips.
Choi Young Su was the runner-up on Day 1B, having built a stack of 88.7k chips. Ming Sheng finished 3rd, with 80.3k chips to his name.

While it was not sufficiently large, the Day 1B starting field made up for that shortfall through quality: among the participants, there were players like Raj Ramakrishnan, he of 2009 Aussie Millions Main Event fame, Jesse McKenzie, who finished second in the 2011 ANZPT Adelaide Main Event and Gie Reyes, the recent second-place finisher of the Macau Poker Cup Red Dragon Main Event. None of the above said players managed to have their tickets punched for Day 2 of the poker tournament though.
Team PokerStars Pro was represented by Raymond Wu and Celina Lin. They both started out well, but they both faded away before the end of the day. Jim Collopy played too and he made it to day 2, behind a stack of 38.7k chips.
