APPT Cebu – Day 1C Report

As expected, Day 1C of the APPT’s Cebu Main Event yielded a much larger starting field than any of the previous two day 1 flights. No fewer than 119 players bellied up to the tables, rounding the overall starting field up to 246, exactly 10 players more than last year when 236 guys showed up.
Despite the larger starting field, the chip leader of the day – Sang Yong Lee – didn’t quite manage to best the Day 1B chip leader, Antonio Martins. Lee amassed 106.4k chips while Martins had bagged 119k the previous day.
Other players who finished with massive stacks on Friday were Wei Zhong Kua and Kenneth Leong, who built stacks of 99.5k and 90k respectively.
There weren’t any bona-fide ‘name’ pros in the top 10: Nicholas Wong wrapped up the count in 10th place, with a stack of 55k chips.

There were quite a few high-profile players in the initial starting field on Friday, but they either fell by the site till the day’s end or finished further down the chip counts.
59 players remained standing of the initial 119 at the end of day 1C, which means that day 2 will see 128 players return to the action. Olivier Speidel was among those whose tournament lives ended on Friday, together with Steve Yea, Gordon Huntley and Team PokerStars Pro’s own Brian Huang. Heath Herring and Terrence Chan bit the dust too.
Chan’s fate was sealed late in the day when he picked up a pair of 10s and decided to trust the majority of his chips to them. He was unlucky enough to run into a caller who had pocket Js though, and relieved of most of his ammo, he was left barely hanging on. He shoved all-in a few hands later on a pair of 9s, against two players one of whom had pocket 10s and the other pocket Js.
Unlike Chan, David Steicke and Vincent Rubianes will return for some Day 2 action.

about the 64s hand.. i don't know if i'm crazy but, i'm pretty sure i'd check back that turn for pot cotnrol reasons because i'd hate to have to fold this hand to a c/r. either that or bet about 40% pot to extract value from the FD and OESD part of his range.
