APPT Cebu – Day 2 Report

128 players returned to the tables on the second day of the APPT’s Cebu Main Event, with the goal of playing down as close to the final table as possible. Indeed, at the end of the day only 28 remained, among them Amit Varma who managed to amass the largest stack. His field-leading 545.5k stack was over 200k chips bigger than that of second place man Hoang Anh Do, who had 330k.
Jacky Wang ended up in third place, with 274.5k. Due to the huge stack of the chip leader, only the top three managed to finish with above average stacks, the rest of the survivors fell below the average mark.
Day 2 saw its fair share of ‘name’ players biting the dust. David Steicke was one of those eliminated, together with Rami Boukai and Charles Lam. Team
PokerStars Pro had quite a massive presence at the tables at the beginning of the day, but with the departure of Raymond Wu, Celina Lin and Vivian Im, the representatives of the main sponsor pretty much all whittled away.
Wu’s elimination was one for the books: he locked horns with Sammy Huang and after a preflop raising war, the two saw a flop of As,8h,6h. The chips flew into the middle on the flop, and the race was on: Wu had an A,K against Huang’s A,J. Things looked good for him but a J on the turn sent him to the brink of elimination. The 2d which fell on the river sealed the deal.
The interesting thing about Day 2 was that the money bubble was set to burst. As a matter of fact, as soon as the bubble was out of the way, the action was called. All 28 players who will return for day 3 have a money finish guaranteed this way. The bubble-boy was Mikko Turtiainen, whose pocket Qs fell to Sungsik Bae’s pocket 6s for the bust.
Antonio Martins survived the day, together with Bobo Chen and Antoine Amourette.
