APPT Cebu – Day 2 Report

The second day of the APPT’s Cebu Main Event saw 76 players belly up to the tables of the Waterfront Airport Casino and Hotel in Cebu, looking to play down as close to the final table as possible. After about 6 hours of torrid action, 25 of them were left alive to duke it out on Day 3.
Daniel Spence was the most successful player of the day, finishing with the largest stack after he amassed 260.8k chips. Anthony Wright clinched second place, while Jim Collopy finished third with 200.8k chips to his name. Collopy’s rise to the top was the story of the day. Collopy, who has been on fire lately, logging deep runs in various live poker tournaments world-over, started Day 2 of the APPT Cebu Main event with a rather average stack and surpassed all expectations yet again finishing in the top 3.

Spence played well through the day, but a huge chunk of his finishing stack came during the second to last level of action, when he managed to pull off a masterful bluff. The board was 4c,4h,3c,8s and neither Daniel Francis nor Daniel Spence showed any signs of wanting to apply added pressure. There were already 75k chips in the middle when the 9d fell on the river, prompting Spence to make a 25k bet. His opponent went into the tank and after quite a bit of deliberating decided to let go of the hand. In the end Spence did show his hand: he had nothing but a 6d,5d for a straight draw which never filled up.

Besides Collopy, a handful of other “name” players earned their Day 3 tickets: Chane Kampanatsanyakorn and the recent winner of the Cebu Cup, Shingo Cho, both made the cut.
PokerStars’ Bryan Huang and Sam Razavi both bit the dust.
