APPT Melbourne – Day 2 Report

The second day of the APPT Melbourne Main Event saw 167 players return from the two Day 1 flights. The event progressed nicely on Day 2: when the action was called, there were only 44 players left in contention. Although he failed to clinch the chip lead, Leo Boxell, the Australian pro who won the event last year, was quite close to it: he finished second, with 400k chips to his name. The provisional chip lead went to Wayne Bentley, who managed to accumulate 450k chips. The event was a pretty star-spangled one: Van Marcus, Andrew Hinrichsen, Aaron Benton and Celina Lin all played. None of them made it past the day 2 hurdle though. They were joined on the rail by Didier Guerin and Jay Kinkade.
Others did much better though: Billy Argyros and Christian Lunardi both survived, together with PokerStars’ own Roy Bhasin. Brendon Rubie did extremely well: he ended up in 3rd place at the end of the day with 314.5k chips. He was followed by Michael Kanaan, who managed to build a stack of 311k chips.

Tom Grigg held the chip lead at one point in the day. He was one of the chip leaders down to the final stretch as he had more than 400k when the last level of the action kicked off. He only finished with 77k though, after he took a massive trouncing from James Bill, whose pocket Ks made short work of Grigg’s A,10o in one of the biggest hands of the day.
Dale Marsland and Ben Skender enjoyed great runs too: they finished 5th and 6th, with 294k and 284.5k chips to their names respectively. Sam Razavi and Ted Nguyen made the top 10 as well.
With the money bubble set for 28th place, day 3 will prove instrumental in separating the winners from the losers. The winner’s share of the action is a massive $326.1k.
