APPT Seoul – Day 1A Report

Political tensions may be running high on the Korean peninsula, but for poker players, that means little to nothing. The first day 1 flight of the PokerStars APPT’s Seoul Main Event kicked off on Thursday, drawing a starting field of 122 players. A total of 8 levels of action went into the day, at the end of which, only 50 contestants were left standing. Benjamin Richardson was the player who emerged with the chip lead, having built up a stack of 111.6k chips. Manami Hayamizu finished with a massive stack as well: her 104.8k chips were enough for second place. The only other player to finish with a 6-figure stack was Wang Ping Yuan, who had 102.4k chips bagged. Xuan Liu also saw action on Day 1A. She got off to a great start and managed to build up a decent-size stack, but at one point she lost a massive pot. She got her chips into the middle with pocket Qs, against a couple of opponents who had pocket Ks and pocket rockets respectively. That hand left her crippled, but she battled back and eventually finished the day with 53.5k chips to her name.

Joseph Cheong was another notable who played, but he failed to turn in a noteworthy performance. He got his chips into the middle with pocket rockets first, against an opponent’s pocket Qs and he had them cracked. That hand left him crippled and he soon bit the dust when his A,J lost a classic coin-flip to an opponent’s pocket 8s.
PokerStars’ Bryan Huang was among the victims of the day as well. His last chips went into the middle on a J,9 suited and an opponent called him with pocket 10s. The board blanked out though and he hit the rail early.
