APPT Seoul – Day 1B Report

The second day 1 flight of the APPT’s Seoul Main Event saw 139 players belly up to the tables. That number, added to the 129 who had registered on Day 1A made a total starting field of 268.
53 players survived the action on Day 1B. Jhana Hale finished the day with the largest stack. He accumulated 173.8k chips taking the overall lead, surpassing Day 1A chip leader Christopher Park by quite a bit.
There were several other players who shot past he 100k chip mark too. Vincent Rubianes, Daisuke Endo, Hong Yan Bian and Clayton Chang all finished with more than healthy stacks. Clayton Chang finished second with 133k chips.
Hale found himself faced with a big decision during the 6th level, when he got into a 3-way preflop tug-of-war with
PokerStars’ Angel Guillen and Dong Kyu Kim who shoved all-in. Hale made the call, thinking his move would intimidate Guillen into folding too, but the PokerStars pro had other ideas. He shoved all-in too, prompting Hale to go into the bubble for a while to ponder the best course of action. He eventually made the call and turned over pocket 10s against Kim’s A,9o and Guillen’s A,Ko. The flop fell A,10,2, giving both Kim and Guillen a top pair, but rewarding Hale with a set. The 9 on the turn and the 5 on the river meant nothing and two players were sent to the rail in one fell swoop. The chips he collected on that hand gave Hale a more than comfortable lead.
There was only one more PokerStars pro at the tables on Day 1B, Bryan Huang, but he had already busted out well before the above described hand came about.
Michael Mariakis, Kenneth Wong, Andrew Scott all advanced to day 2. There were plenty of other notables who failed to do so though: Shaq Lin and Masa Kagawa were among those eliminated, together with Kenny Shih.
