The second Day 1 flight of the APPT’s Seoul Main Event saw 100 players belly up to the tables, looking to earn a coveted seat for Day 2. At the end of the day, only 35 of those 100 players were still standing. Leading the pack was Mike Kim, who accumulated a stack of 179.3k chips. Only one other player managed to cross the 100k chip mark: Chane Kampanatsanyakakorn, whose stack of 134.5k was enough to land him in second place.
Professional players seemed to mostly struggle on Day 1B.
PokerStars’ Celina Lin for instance got her stack into the middle with pocket 7s on a flop which gave her a set. Unfortunately for her, another player had also made a set, a higher one than hers, and there was no bail-out for her on the turn or the river.
Kristy Arnett lost most of her chips to a similar cooler and she too was bounced a few hands later when her 8,7o fell to her opponent’s K,Qo.
Day 1B being the last day 1 flight, the total numbers concerning the starting field and the prize-pool were finally revealed: a total of 222 players bought into the
poker tournament, generating a prize-pool of 594,338,400 Korean Wons. The top 24 finishers will be paid, which means that the rest of the players will pretty much go home empty-handed.
The winner’s share of the prize-pool will be a $147.1k one. The winner will be the only one taking home a 6-figure prize. The runner-up will come pretty close though, since his/her reward will be a $93.6k.
Day 2 of the event will see a total of 85 players returning to the tables of the Paradise Walkerhill Casino, the host of the tournament.
