The Aussie Millions’ 4th event, a $1,100 PL Omaha event, saw Annette Obrestad, known online as “Annette_15”, rise to victory. Born on September 18th 1988, Annette Obrestad was too young to take part in live poker tournaments until not too long ago. She made a name for herself in online poker, when she was only 15 (hence her online poker username, which became her nickname). Annette Obrestad claimed she’d never deposited any money on any online poker site. She supposedly made her initial poker bankroll by winning a freeroll. From that point on, she won several hundreds of thousands of dollars at
Full Tilt Poker,
Ultimate Bet and PokerStars.
Finally free of the live poker limits imposed by her age, Obrestad is currently traveling the world, participating in all the significant poker events as a representative of Betfair Poker.
Her latest caper came in event #4 of the 2010 Aussie Millions. The one time teenage sensation bested a field of 160 registrants to shoot to the top of the $1,100 PLO event and to claim the winner’s AUD 40,000 share of the prize-pool.
She started the final day of the event 3rd in chips, but she soon secured the lead. From that point on, there was no stopping her.
The first victim of the final table was Michael Sampieri. Billy Seri was responsible for his elimination. His finish earned him a AUD 3,200 prize. Tony Bloom was the next casualty, fallen at the hands of Annette Obrestad. Bloom picked up AUD 4,800 for his efforts.
Paul Taylor dropped out next, followed by Emad Tahtouh. Tahtouh’s K,K,8,10 proved to be no good against Annette Obrestad’s A,A,Q,K which meant that his chase of the win would end there, a AUD 8,800 consolation prize in his pockets.
Con Angleakis followed him to the rail, and Obrestad made another victim soon after, eliminating Oliver Gill in 4th. Gill pocketed AUD 17,600.
Ryan Gutch’s demise (at Annette Obrestad’s hands of course) set up the heads-up stage of the
poker tournament. Billy Seri couldn’t stop Anette either and as his K.8,J,9 fell to her K,J,J,2, the first ever female Aussie Millions champion was crowned. This win was Annette’s first ever major PLO win.
