Best Poker Moments of 2012 – Blom Wins PCA High Roller

2012 was the year which saw Viktor Blom (now one of Full Tilt Poker’s in-house professionals) burst onto the live poker tournament scene. Blom had been known for years for his online cash games prowess, but he’d never been big on tournaments. That perception regarding his persona changed at the beginning of the current year, when he won the $100k Super High Roller of the 2012 PCA. One couldn’t even argue that he won an event featuring weak competition: the final table which he ended up beating included players like PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu and Jonathan Duhamel.
The heads-up stage of the event saw Blom lock horns with Dan Shak. Blom ended up with the $1.2 million prize, taking a flying start in the tournament world. He went on to win two SCOOP titles later in the year.

2012 was also the year which saw Dan Smith absolutely dominate the GPI PoY rankings, locking up the top spot for weeks on end and never letting any of his competitors even dream about overtaking him. Of course, behind the outstanding GPI PoY run, there was an impressive list of live poker accomplishments. He started off by taking home $1 million from the Aussie Millions $100k Challenge.
He followed that up with no fewer than 3 victories in various EPT preliminary events. At the 2012 WSOP, he scored no fewer than 5 cashes, one of which came in the $5k NL Holdem event and it was a 3rd place finish, so the rewards on that one were quite lavish indeed. He then won the EPT’s Barcelona Super High Roller, taking home a $1.1 million prize. At the Partouche Poker Tour’s Main Event, he finished 7th, so his total for the year reached the $3.6 million mark.
