Bodog Rebranded in the US as Bovada

Bodog Poker has quit the US market earlier this year, probably prompted by the Black Friday developments which dealt on line poker a near fatal blow in the US. The move came as a surprise for many, who knew about the conflicts that Bodog had had with the US authorities well before the events that led to Black Friday were even conceived, and the way the site had managed to shrug off all adversity, including the loss of its domain name.
The new site is Bovada.lv, conjuring images of Las Vegas glitter and glamour. The design of the site is indeed reminiscent of the old Bodog color scheme and layout.
The move is quite probably meant to secure a presence for the MMGG in the US market in the event of online poker’s much anticipated legalization.
According to the press release which accompanied the launch of the operation, the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group would cease to operate in the US under the Bodog brand. US citizens will not be able to access any of the Bodog brand sites, despite the fact that the brand licensing agreement between Bodog and MMGG will not expire until December 31.
Bodog has expressed hope that player account information would remain safe and secure under the new brand and it wished the MMGG luck with the new operation.

The rebranding move doesn’t come as a surprise for MMGG insiders. The Group had announced quite a while ago that the Bodog brand would not be available for 2012. Player accounts and balances have been transferred to Bovada.lv, and the operation went live on December 14, having flung its doors wide open to US traffic.
Those who have questions regarding the move or the transfer of the accounts should contact support at bovada.lv
For those who were wondering where the Bovada name came from: it’s a portmanteau of Bodog and Nevada. The Latvian .lv domain extension is a Las Vegas suggestion.
