Changes Looming for the EPT’s 10th Season

The 10th season of the European Poker Tour has already generated a bit of hype among the high-profile crowd, and that according to some, was one of the reasons why so few such players showed up in Galway for
Full Tilt Poker’s UKIPT Main Event: they didn’t want to make the European round trip twice during the same month. Set to kick off on August 26, with the popular Barcelona stop, the 10th run-around of the EPT will feature certain changes, according to
PokerStars’ Neil Johnson.
For starters, super high rollers and high rollers will have their late registration periods extended throughout the season. Those looking to buy into one of these events will be able to do so right up until the start of the second day of action. The extended registration period will be valid for the Main Events as well. The changes regarding the registration period were obviously made at the suggestions of the players. As far as side events go, registration will be available up until the 5th level of the first day.
During Season 10, high rollers will be expanded from 2 to 3 days. The first two days will consist of 10 levels of action. In addition to all that, the 2014 edition of the PCA’s High Roller will not be televised.
Johnson also hinted at the EPT staff’s intentions to diversify the game selection of the various stops, through the addition of more non-Holdem events. The Italian stops of the
EPT would thusly gain a Draw event each, and a $1k Draw Championship event may be added to the San Remo stop.
The awards system may end up overhauled too, with the Player of the Year award gaining more importance. There may be some tweaks to the payout structure as well.
