Daniel Negreanu Loses his Cool

Daniel Negreanu isn’t the player to lose his cool often and to throw tantrums at the green felt but the Premier League VI got to him. It isn’t a secret that the PokerStars pro didn’t do too well at PartyPoker’s Premier league VI and that he eventually ended up missing the final table. What isn’t such common knowledge though is just how adverse Lady Luck proved to be towards Negreanu during the Premier League VI group battles. Notoriously unlucky in televised events, Daniel Negreanu did not disappoint this time either: he got bounced from the Premier League at the end of a nasty bad beat. Through the group battles, it looked like he was going to make the final table without problems, but fate once again intervened against him: he got all his chips into the middle with an A,Qo against Jonathan Duhamel’s 7c, 4c. Needless to say, Negreanu was a huge favorite before the flop and the A,6,4,K flop and turn only extended his lead. Lady Luck saved the worst for last though: the 4h landed on the river, giving Duhamel trips and eliminating Kid Poker from the Premier League.
Although definitely not unfamiliar which such wild swings of luck, Negreanu was caught on the wrong foot emotionally, because according to a PartyPoker report, he threw his chips across the table in frustration upon seeing the 2-outer land.

In other news: Steve O’Dwyer has become quite a staple presence at the final tables of various high-profile live poker events world over lately, and his hot run has finally been rewarded by the GPI: his EPT London 5th place finish meant that he moved right into 7th spot in the GPI rankings. Although his move has indeed been a spectacular one, O’Dwyer has some way to go to equal his best ever GPI rank: a second place attained in June 2012.
