Durrrr Challenge – Antonius and Dwan square off again

With his bankroll pretty much rebuilt and with Isildur1 out of sight, Tom Dwan finally figured it was about high-time he and Antonius put in some more hands in their hopelessly drawn out Durrrr Challenge battle. The two players met at the specially set up challenge tables at Full Tilt Poker on Thursday, to put in a 1,256-hand session – a truly impressive move by Durrrr Challenge standards.
The $200/$400 PLO session took a little over 4 hours. Antonius began with the advantage, but eventually Dwan rebounded and finished the session $58,781 above the red line, to extend his overall Durrrr Challenge lead to $878,490.
This latest session leaves only 18,980 hands for Antonius to reclaim the series’ lead and to win the biggest online poker challenge ever.

The Finn didn’t look bad at all in the beginning. He blew Dwan off all 4 challenge tables, felting him and taking a $200,000 lead within the first 200 hands. From that point on though, Dwan embarked on a phenomenal recovery run, and by the mid-point of the session the two protagonists were about even. By the end of it all, Durrrr managed to turn the tables and to further extend his already impressive overall challenge lead.

Challenge table no 1 was the hottest of all 4 tables: most of the decisive monster pots developed there. The first pot to break the $100k mark went to Dwan. The two players shoved all-in on a flop of Ac, 8h,4h. Dwan had A,A,J,10 for a set and Antonius had 7,6,5,3 for a straight draw. Another Ace landed on the turn though to give Dwan the $110,390 pot.
It only took a few minutes though for another similarly sized pot to develop and to go Antonius’ way this time. The $115,599 monster helped Antonius recover the money lost on the previous monster and left him with a slight profit too. The biggest pot of the session proved to be a $118,000 one, that landed in Dwan’s pockets too. The hand which yielded this monster was a truly spectacular one. Dwan hit a 10c on the river to make a Broadway straight and to beat Antonius’ hand which had been an over 85% favorite before the river.

If the pace of the action doesn’t gather some momentum, the one-year anniversary of the online poker challenge will find the battle still undecided.
