Durrrr Challenge – Antonius wins again

The $1 million durrrr challenge, which at one time looked like it was going to simply die off, has been revamped during the last couple of days through two solid back to back sessions, in which Patrik Antonius seemed to have reversed his long standing durrrr challenge curse. Just one day after an 8-hour long marathon session, the two online poker protagonists got together again at
Full Tilt Poker’s tables, this time for a 5 hour session. Antonius was the one who walked away a winner from this session as well, chipping $197,369 off Dwan’s advantage in the series. The New Jersey Wonderkid still has a $1.8 million lead though, and with a little over 12,000 hands remaining in the Challenge, Antonius may find it quite difficult to catch up.
The latest session saw the two players rack up 1,302 hands, and despite the fact that the margin by which Antonius broke ahead in the end wasn’t all that impressive, several massive pots have developed along the way.
There were three $200k pots, and another one that almost broke the mark too. The largest pot of the
online poker session was a $205,594 monster, which ended up in Antonius’ possession.
The fireworks were set off by the A which fell on the turn of a board made up of J,9,2. The A set up a perfect hand situation: it gave Antonius a top set, while giving Dwan a top two pair. Sure enough, Dwan was unable to make the lay-down and the money went into the middle. The 9 on the river changed nothing and the pot landed in Antonius’ pocket.
While in past sessions Antonius used to be the cautious one, in these last to outings, he was a lot more inclined to take chances, probably in order to hasten his catching up. Another over $200k pot was the perfect illustration of Antonius’ newfound taste for gambling. In a rather uncharacteristic manner, in this hand it was Antonius who pushed the rags against Dwan’s solid hand. He failed to get lucky eventually and the $203,190 pot was shipped Dwan’s way, as the 4-card flush the Finn did eventually hit, failed to fill up on the river.
The two players quit the session with plans to play the following day.
