Durrrr Challenge – Dwan closes session up $32k

Railbirds who don’t hang around at Full Tilt Poker all day almost certainly missed the latest Durrrr Challenge get-together, which was consummated on Tuesday. Cates and Dwan put in a lightning-fast 258 hand session, at the end of which Dwan walked away with a $31,778 profit. This latest development puts Dwan $659,232 behind Cates, after a total of 7,660 hands logged.

The session was not a truly significant one in terms of monster pots. The largest pot the two played for didn’t even break the $100k mark. At $90,395, it was a relative light-weight in a world dominated by half million and above monsters. The hand which led to the above pot started out the usual way. By the time the turn was reached, the pot had already grown to a respectable size. The 3h which landed on the turn, froze the action a little: Cates checked and Dwan wasn’t in a hurry to get more chips into the middle either. The Kh on the river prompted another check from Cates, in response to which Dwan shoved all-in (for a little over $29k). For some reason, Cates made the call, only to see Dwan flip over 2h, 8h for the runner-runner flush and the win. Dwan had basically called all of Cates’ preflop action with rags and bet the flop with nothing but air.

Cates was the one who won the second biggest pot of the session though. The action opened with the usual 3-betting and calling after which a flop of 9d,4c,3h hit the board. Dwan bet 4.2 million and Cates made the call to see the Qd fall on the turn. That prompted another $9.2k bet from Dwan which was called by Cates again. The river was the Qh and Cates moved all-in, in response to Dwan’s check.
Dwan made the call to see Cates table A,Qo for the win.
