After another incredibly long break in their $1 million Challenge Series, Patrik Antonius and Tom Dwan were once again at each-others throats at the 4 challenge
poker tables at Full Tilt Poker.
Their Wednesday session was in fact a collection of 4 smaller sessions which generated a total of 2,040 hands. Dwan took up right where he’d left off during their last session: dominating the game. He’d initially managed to build up a $1.2 million overall lead, but the Finn, fresh off a confidence-building $800,000 win at the Mixed games tables the previous day, clawed his way back, eventually leaving Dwan with a $81,716 profit for the day.
The first session of the day began extremely well for Dwan. He scored the first 6-figure pot barely 10 minutes into the action, by turning a K-high straight. This first inning of their session lasted for about an hour and generated 330 hands. At the end of it, Dwan was $190,422 in the black. Antonius soon returned to the tables though and another over one hour session got going. The two players logged 296 hands in this one, and Antonius took about $130k right back, by winning a $180,000 pot.
The following break was called by Dwan who needed to grab some chow himself. The third session was a real whooper compared to the first two. It lasted for well over three hours and nearly 1,000 hands were logged. The biggest pot of the day came about during this session too. The $293,000 monster went Dwan’s way of course, after his rivered boat made short work of Antonius’ nut straight.
The bead beats kept plundering Antonius’ stack. A $189,048 pot developed shortly after, and Antonius held a set of 9s against Dwan’s pocket A’s. The New Jersey wonderkid hit a runner-runner straight though to grab the pot and to send Antonius to the brink of despair. The Finn was down, but he was definitely not out. Over the following 470 hands he logged a $167,620 profit, hitting a runner-runner of his own and seriously cutting into Dwan’s lead.
This session took the challenge hand count to 27,185 and Dwan’s overall lead to $779,248.
