Durrrr Challenge – the pace finally picks up

Patrik Antonius and Tom Dwan came together the other day at Full Tilt Poker’s Challenge tables for yet another Challenge session, the third one in as many days – something I’m not sure the series had ever seen before.
Despite his more risky approach and his increased willingness to gamble, not to mention the fact that he’d managed to break his durrrr Challenge jinks with two consecutive session wins over the last few days, Antonius ended up dropping this one. Dwan booked a $33,868 win at the end of a 1,606 hand online poker session, which saw more than its fair share of 6 figure pots, and which reduced the number of remaining Challenge hands to around 11,000.
Though – by durrrr Challenge standards – he only booked a minute profit, Tom Dwan still has an iron grip on the lead in the series, being $1,844,430 up on his opponent.

As their latest session slowly wound down, the two players appeared to become more and more willing to gamble. As a result of that, the 4 largest pots of the session all came about in the final quarter. The two protagonists split these pots 2-2 with the biggest single haul of the session ending up in Dwan’s pockets.
The $367k monster saw the two players three-bet the pot to $3,600 before the K,3,2 flop fell. There were a couple more raises before the turn brought a Q. That card was the one that ignited the all-in. Dwan then turned over a top set against Antonius’ two pair and flush draw. The 10c on the river sent Antonius’ hopes up in smoke and put Dwan in possession of the 4th largest pot taken down throughout the course of the entire Challenge.

Not to be the one to be outdone in monster-pot matters, Antonius got his hands on a $317k whooper himself towards the end of the session.
The very last pot of the session was a monster too. Antonius 6-high straight was enough to best Dwan’s nut flush draw (which failed to materialize), earning the Finn a $261k addition to his Challenge tally.
Whether the two players are able to keep this pace up remains to be seen, if they do though, we may yet see an end to this Series and maybe see another one kick off, one that will have a much better overall flow to it.
