The durrrr challenge – yes the one many of you have probably already started forgetting about – was revived to the tune of 348 hands late on Monday. Daniel Cates and Tom Dwan sat down to the $200/$400 tables at
Full Tilt Poker to duke it out a little bit. Dwan started off well, and after the first 238 hands of the session, he was $21k ahead. He took a little break but returned soon. Over the following 110 hands though, Lady Luck switched allegiances, and when the session wrapped up, Dwan was down a massive $122k, allowing Cates to extend his overall challenge lead to around $941k.
One of the early monster pots, a $35k one ended up in Dwan’s possession, after the following hand: Dwan was on the button and after the usual preflop give and take, the Qc,10h,3h landed on the flop. Cates took the initiative and Dwan made the call to see the 6h fall on the turn. Cates bet yet again and Dwan made the call again to see the Qh drop on the river. Cates had a 6c, 3c for the two pair, but the paired board meant that Dwan’s K,10 would take the laurels this time.
It only took him two minutes though to exact revenge, through a pot which would prove to be the biggest one of the session. The $80.7k monster started out just like any other hand: with a little bit of preflop action after which the 9h,8d,6d fell on the flop. Cates check-raised Dwan on the flop, in response to which, durrrr just pushed all his chips into the middle. Cates had Kd, Jd for the flush draw and Dwan had pocket 7s. The first run of the turn and the river completely counterfeited Dwan’s hand. The 8 and the 9 made a 2 pair and Cates had the better kicker. The second run fell Q and K and Cates scooped the entire pot.
