EPT Barcelona – a Look at the Side Events

Thus far we have only focused on the €50k Super High Roller and the Main Event of the EPT’s Barcelona stop, but there were plenty of other events which played down to winners and awarded sizable prizes. It is now time to take a longer look at some of the more important EPT Bracelona side events.
Event #11, the €2k NL Holdem Turbo one, saw Olympic skier Petter Northug piece together a nice run, finishing in 7th place and taking down a €5.8k prize for his efforts. Northug has always enjoyed poker and he’d even managed to score a min-cash in one of the WSOP events, but he never took home any money from an EPT one until the other day that is. The event was won by Hungary’s Peter Dragar, who took home a €44.8k prize.
Ricardo Tavares of Brazil came in second for €28.1k.

The finale of the Estrellas Poker Tour €2k High Roller event was not an actual EPT event, but it took place during the Tour’s Barcelona stop anyway. The winner of it was Russia’s Dmitry Grishin, who bested Christopher Andler of Sweden heads-up for the top spot. Grishin took home €77.2k for his efforts. PokerStars’ Angel Guillen finished 5th in the event for a reward of €22.4k.
Jonathan Karamalikis of Australia made the top 8 too, taking down €10k for his efforts.

Ivan Demidov’s girlfriend, Liya Gerasimova, generated some waves in the Main Event. She also won the EPT Barcelona’s Ladies’ event, besting Lucia Martinez of Spain heads-up. Her reward was a €10.7k prize. Leo Margets of Spain was the only ‘name’ competitor who made the final table. She finished 7th for €1.3k.

There were players who won their way into the EPT Barcelona through rather unconventional ways. Sergey Martynenko for instance was the winner of a video contest which offered him a seat in the EPT’s Main Event. In the video, he gave advice to Rafael Nadal on learning to play poker.
