465 players showed up for the second day 1 flight of the
EPT Barcelona Main Event. The second batch of registrants created a total starting field of 811, and a prize-pool of €4,055,000. Guillaume Darcourt finished the day with the largest stack, having amassed 195.3k chips.
Darcourt’s impressive run began with a hand in which he managed to pull off a daring bluff. He had Qc, 4c on a flop of 7,8,J all heart and he bluffed every street right up the river. The 6 and the 3 which fell didn’t exactly help him out, but he kept the pedal to the metal and he finally managed to push his opponent off the pot. Those chips gave Darcourt a large stack, and he’s a notoriously good wielder of the large stack, so from there on out his task was easier.
Eugene Katchalov finished with a respectable stack as well: 153,100 chips. Leo Fernandez and Vytautas Milvdas also finished on healthy stacks. A good contingent of Team PokerStars pros also remained in contention: Ivan Demidov will return to action on Day 2, together with Arnaud Mattern, Jason Mercier and Victor Ramdin.
Boris Becker survived too. He duked it out with French
PokerStars pro Bertand Grospellier for a while during the day. He finished with 47,500 chips.
Chris Moneymaker played too, but he ran into a nasty cooler to bust early. John Duthie also made the Day 1B casualty list, together with Viktor Blom and Roberto Romanello. Other ‘name’ players to find the rail during Day 1B were Daniel Negreanu and Liv Boeree.
228 players survived the day. They will join the survivors of the first Day 1 flight to create a starting field of 407 players for the second day of action. With the money bubble set for 120th place, quite a few guys still need to be disposed of before those remaining can rejoice in the knowledge that they won’t go home empty-handed. Min-cash in the event will be €8k.
