EPT Barcelona – Day 2 Report

The second day of the
EPT Barcelona Main Event wasn’t exactly a long one: it only took the field 6 levels of action to reach the organizers’ objective for the day. The pace of the action was extremely good, as players busted out in quick succession, their stacks eaten up by those of their peers. When the hostilities ended, France’s Xavier Carruggi had the largest stack of chips.
407 players returned to the Casino de Barcelona at the beginning of the day. The first few minutes marked the calm before the storm, after which all hell broke loose: 60 players hit he rail during the first level only. The second level was equally productive as far as casualties were concerned and the pace remained alert all through the day.
141 players remained at the end of the day. With the money bubble set for 120th place, that means a handful of hopefuls will still have to bust before anyone can get their hands on any money.
Saar Wilf got going early, by taking down a massive pot that pretty much guaranteed his survival to at least Day 3. Wilf made a nut flush and he got plentiful action from Victor Ghenadi. By the time all the chips were in the middle, there must’ve been around 300 Big Blinds on the table. Ghenadi never showed his hand, as Wilf pocketed the goods. That pot gave Wilf the chip lead, but he then lost it, and dropped some chips before finishing the day in 4th place.
Guillaume Darcourt and Tony Pettersen finished with large stack as well.
PokerStars’ Vanessa Selbst started the day at one of the toughest tables, but after she managed to bounce Marcin Horecki and James Mitchell in the same hand, she found some breathing room. She finished the day in the top 10 too.
Jason Mercier, Arnaud Mattern, Luca Pagano and Sebastian Ruthenberg were all eliminated.
The objective on day 3 will be the reaching of the final 24.
