Day 3 of the
EPT Barcelona Main Event was an extremely long one as the organizers had clear objectives and there were quite a few players looking to advance at the beginning of the day. After a marathon session, of the 141 players only 24 remained.
The money bubble was set for 121st place, so there would be quite a bit of bickering around that to begin with. The first few eliminations came about at a painfully slow pace, but eventually the field was down to 121, and the tension peaked.
The hand which saw the bubble burst started out with a raise placed by Mario Adinolfi. PokerStars’ Boris Becker got out of harm’s way and Jeff Hakim shoved all-in in response. Because of hand-for-hand play, the two had to wait for a while before they were allowed to table their hands, but eventually an A,J from Hakim and a measly 8,4o from Adinolfi saw the light of day.
The flop fell 10,8,3 all clubs, giving Adinolfi a slim pair for the lead. The turn then fell a 3d, followed by a 7d which sealed the deal in Adinolfi’s favor. The bubble had burst, and all those still at the table could let out a huge sigh of relief.
Post money-bubble, the action sped up quite a bit. Players began biting the dust one after the other. Benny Spindler, Tobias Reikenmeier and Ronald Lee were only a few of the ‘name’ players who were eliminated during the post-bubble frenzy.
Boris Becker shoved all-in with a Kh, 4h against Benjamin Juhasz’s pocket 6s. The flop brought another 6 and only two more hearts fell on the board, so the tennis champ was bounced too.
PokerStars’ Vanessa Selbst, Victor Ramdin and Alex Kravchenko made the money but failed to survive the day 3 hurdle.
Bartolome Gomila Romero was the one who clinched the chip lead at the end of the day.
