EPT Berlin – Ben Wilinofsky wins

9 players returned to the tables of the Berlin Spielbank on the final day of the EPT’s Main Event to battle it out for the title, and what a lineup it was. The chip leader was pretty much the dullest player at the table, in the sense that he was on his first ever EPT live cash. Martin Jacobson on the other hand, was at his third final table of the season. Joep van den Bijgaart was there as well, representing Team PokerStars Pro, together with Darren Kramer, who’s not exactly a beginner either. It took 10 hours for 8 of the 9 final table protagonists to bite the dust one by one, thus propelling Ben Wilinofsky to his first EPT title. Wilinofsky’s chip lead wasn’t a truly solid one at the beginning of the final table action, but he scored a huge hit just a few minutes into the day, a hit which essentially proved to be the winning move for him: he almost doubled up at the expense of second place man Max Heinzelmann. Wilinofsky had a bottom set on a board of 7,5,6,A,J, against whatever Heinzelmann had. That move gave him half the chips in play, and positioned him on a pedestal nobody could hope to topple him from.

Jonas Gutteck was the first one to bite the dust. He was eliminated by Heinzelmann, who began working off his newfound handicap. Joep van den Bijgaart fell next, courtesy of Wilinofsky. He was followed out the door by Darren Kramer in 6th place.
Armin Mette was the one who scooped up €180k for his 5th place finish. Martin Jacobson, the EPT legend, ran into Max Heinzelmann next, picking up €230k for his 4th place.
Kursevich exited 3rd, to set up the heads-up confrontation between Wilinofsky and Heinzelmann.
The Canadian had a huge chip lead going into the final stretch and he took full advantage of it: he never lost the initiative on his way to the €825k top prize.
