EPT Berlin – Day 1B Report

The first day 1 flight of the
EPT Berlin stop was a mere distraction in comparison to the massive field that day 1B drew. No fewer than 502 players showed up for the second day 1 flight, spilling out of the Grand Hyatt hotel, the venue for the event, and into the Spielbank Berlin.
Being the last day 1 flight, Day 1B set the record straight prize-pool and money-bubble wise. Those who make the final table will collect €72k. 112 players will finish in the money, and the min cash will be €7.5k.
Vladimir Geshkenbein was the one who managed to clinch the provisional chip lead on Day 1A. Day 1B saw Cengiz Ulusu rise to the top behind a stack of 242.8k chips.
Day 1A seemed to favor ‘name’ pros (especially Team
PokerStars Pro members) but day 1B proved to be a much more difficult hurdle to negotiate for these guys, who showed up in truly impressive numbers indeed. Bertrand Grospellier managed to make it to day 2 on a 40.9k stack. Other pros who also advanced were Viktor Blom, George Danzer and Alex Kravchenko. Scores of other ‘name’ players perished though, among them each and every one of the Team PokerStars pros who got going that day. Johnny Lodden was among the casualties, together with Arnaud Mattern, Sebastian Ruthenberg, Marcin Horecki, Eugene Katchalov, Jonathan Duhamel, Victor Ramdin and scores of others.
Victor Ramdin had managed to put together quite a nice run, reaching 122k chips at one point before he succumbed to Lady Luck’s wrath. Pius Heinz took a sip from the bitter cup of perfect hand defeat too: he ran his pocket ladies into an opponent’s pocket Ks and another player’s pocket rockets.
Davidi Kitai had a much better day though: he finished among the top-runners (in 4th place to be precise) with a stack of 197.7k chips. Kevin MacPhee finished with a healthy stack too.
