EPT Berlin High Roller – Day 1 Report

The first day of the €10k High Roller of the EPT’s Berlin stop didn’t start out in a promising way: only 22 players showed up to cough up the steep buy-in, but as the day wore on, more and more entries got tossed into the middle. When the line was drawn, there were no fewer than 136 buy-ins in the prize-pool, quite a bit more than anyone would’ve expected. Registration will in fact remain open for day 2 too, so that number is likely to move higher.
Finishing with the largest stack of chips at the end of the day was local player Ronny Voth, who had 607.5k bagged. He was followed by AP Phahurat, with 498.5k and PokerStars’ Max Lykov with 445.8k.

The first elimination of the poker tournament took nearly two hours to come about. Andreas Eiler was the first player to leave his €10k in the middle. His bust-out came at the end of a perfect hand: he had a set, but Andreas Goeller made a straight on the river to edge him out and he was done.
Griffin Benger on the other hand had an excellent start and he kept the pedal to the metal through the day to finish with 382.2k chips. Another player who had a great day was Aaron Lim who got off to a great start as well and then used his large stack to make his way to a stack of 173.4k chips. Some of the players who made day 2 did so having fired two bullets for a total of €20k. Martin Kabrhel was one of these players. Faraz Jaka re-bought as well, but he ended up losing his second buy-in too. The same fate befell Andrew Chen, Justin Bonomo and Johannes Strassmann.
