EPT Campione – Day 1B Report

As expected, the second day 1 flight of the EPT’s Campione Main Event drew a starting field of 392 players, blowing away the 178-big day 1A field. Most of the ‘name’ players chose to wait till Day 1B to get going and they showed up en-masse. Thus, the combined starting field reached the 570 mark, which meant a total prize-pool of €2,764,500 and a €640k prize for the eventual winner. Nicholas Chouity, an EPT-worn veteran, was the one who emerged with the chip lead at the end of the day, having accumulated a stack of 165,900.
Chouity rode a middling stack through most of the day, but towards the end of it he took down a massive pot from PokerStars’ own Vanessa Selbst who ran her J,9s into his pocket rockets for the bust. Although the said pot did give Chouity the lead, it failed to create a comfortable cushion behind him. Andrea Benelli finished second, with 163,400 chips to his name.
3rd place man Stefano Demontis also finished with a massive stack of 154,700 chips. As a matter of fact, each and every player who finished in the top 10 managed to shoot well clear of the 100k chip mark.

Despite the larger player-pool, none of the Day 1B survivors managed to top Day 1A chip leader Davide Andreoni, whose 175.1k stack kept him in the overall lead going into day 2.
Team PokerStars Pro had a massive presence on Day 1B: 16 pros bellied up to the tables at the beginning of the day, of whom 13 have successfully advanced. Arnaud Mattern, Liv Boeree and Eugen Katchalov were among the survivors, together with Victor Ramdin, Dag Palovic and Bertrand Grospellier.
Dario Minieri was bounced, together with Salvatore Bonavena and Lex Veldhuis. Unlike the above said players, Lex Veldhuis had an excellent Day 1B run. Chris Moorman made the cut too.
Michael Tureniec and Andrew Frankenberger weren’t that lucky.
