EPT Deauville – Day 1b report

The second day 1 flight of the EPT Deauville Main Event attracted a starting field of 472 players, more numerous than the day 1a starting field and apparently more star-studded as well. Team Pokerstars Pro was represented by a whole bunch of players: Viktor Blom was there and so were Vanessa Rousso, Jude Ainsworth, Nacho Barbero and Bertrand Grospellier. Daniel Negreanu played as well, but his day wasn’t exactly an enjoyable one. He was clearly dissatisfied with the Deauville hotels and his tournament didn’t go well at all either. He started off by dropping a huge pot on a flopped two pair to find himself sitting on 10k chips. He kicked and clawed his way back into contention and he almost managed to rebuild his starting stack, but then he got it all-in on a top pair and flush draw combination against an opponent’s set. The flush failed to materialize, and he was eliminated.

Dario Minieri exited in a much less glorious manner. Almost immediately after the start of the poker tournament, he started betting wildly on an Ah, 2h he’d picked up. He bet every single street without having anything, and when an A fell on the river, he shoved all-in.
Unfortunately for him, the opponent who had called him all along, had A,Q for a two pair.

Liv Boeree fell on Day 1B too. She ran her A,J into Frank Op de Woerd’s A,Q and failed to improve.
Viktor Blom and Almira Schripchenko were seated at the same table. They both made it through the day, and Blom’s 144,700 chips even fetched him a place among the chip leaders.
Philippe Massias finished the day with the largest stack. His 175,600 chips weren’t enough to lift him past day 1A chip leader Guillaume de la Gorce though. Other notables who will also go on to play on day 2 were Bertrand Grospellier, Nacho Barbero and Bruno Fitoussi.
