EPT Deauville – Day 3 Report

Day 3 of the PokerStars EPT’s Deauville Main event was all about the money bubble. The breakneck-paced action which characterized the event thus far continued on day 3 too: the starting field of 178 played down to 54, shooting well past the money bubble which had been set for 128th place. Martins Adeniya started the day with the largest stack and he did manage to take advantage of his status. He rode along in the top spot all day long, but he was eventually stripped of his lead by Samphane Phomveha, who managed to take down a massive pot during the final stretch to claim the lead.

The money bubble was the highlight of the day. Towards the middle of the third blinds-level, the field had reached the bubble. After it burst, the pace of eliminations picked up considerably. From the melee which ensued in the wake of the money bubble, Ondrej Vinklarek emerged, knocking out players left and right and boosting his stack into the lead. He enjoyed a little bit of good luck too, which coupled with his aggressive style of play did wonders indeed. Vinklarek became the first player to shoot past the 1 million chip mark. Towards the end of the day though, he dropped almost all his chips to the eventual chip leader.

Local player Ludovic Lacay had a similarly high-variance ridden day too. There was a point in the day when the Frenchman’s stack got perilously close to the 1 million mark, but he then faded away, dropping a massive pot to Martins Adeniya. Lacay hung around the half million chip mark for a while, but he failed to make it to the end of the day: he fell at the hands of Christopher Brammer, whose pair of aces sent his pocket Js packing.
Toby Lewis made the money too, but he too faded away before the end of the day. James Dempsey failed to survive too.
