EPT Deauville – Day 3 report

Posted by: James Carter. - Sun, 2010-01-24 13:37

133 Day 2 survivors came back to the tables of the Barrier Casino on Day 3 of the EPT Deauville stop. This day of the event carried special significance from several angles: the money bubble would be reached and the winner of PokerStars’ Job 2 Stars promotion would be revealed.
The organizers aimed to have the field play down to the final 24 or to the end of the 22nd level and in a rare twist of fate, the two factors came together like a charm. Just as soon as Stephan Fuchs hit the rail in 25th, the 22nd level came to an end, so the decision to call the day was a really easy one.

Because there were only 104 paid positions, many of the 133 contenders would end up empty handed. Juha Helppi the “Hellraiser”, PokerStars’ Jude Ainsworth and Tristan Clemencon would all leave the poker tournament short of the money bubble.
Daniel Millar became the bubble boy when his A,3 went down to Peter Eastgate’s 8,4 to eliminate him 105th and to open the floodgates for the remaining players who could finally afford to loosen up.

After the bubble, the winner of PokerStars’ Job 2 Stars promotion became known as well. The last standing player from among the promotion’s qualifiers was Thomas Bichon. Bichon earned a €100k salary and €200k in live poker tournament buy-ins from PokerStars.

Following the bursting of the money bubble, due to the loosening of the action, eliminations began to come hard and fast. Davidi Kitai was bounced among the first post-bubble victims. Luca Pagano followed him to the payout queue shortly.
Dario Minieri was eliminated by Andras Nemeth, who clinched the provisional chip lead thanks to that move.
Nicholas Levi had a pretty good day, though by the end of it he got hit by bad luck on several hands. He was eliminated during the last level of the day.
Ludovic Lacay, another beginning of the day large-stack was eliminated late in the day too.

Teodor Caraba picked up about half of Nemeth’s stack on a foolish bluff attempt by the latter, to clinch the end of the day chip lead. Some of the “name” players who survived the day were Betrand Grospellier, Mike McDonald, Freddy Deeb and Bruno Fitoussi.
