EPT Deauville – Day 4 report

With only 24 players in contention, the action got going at the EPT Deauville stop on the 4th overall day of the poker tournament. Amateur Romanian player Teodor Caraba held the chip lead at the beginning of the day, and he was the one who left the tables with the largest stack at the end of it all, thanks to a large pot he took off Mike McDonald and thanks to the elimination of Bertrand Grospellier, whom he sent home just short of the final table.
Jake Cody, a British player is second in chips, and he’s followed by Craig Bergeron, who will wield a large stack at the final table too. Peter Eastgate of Team PokerStars will be the short-stack at the final table, but the live poker experience he’s amassed over the past few years will at least partly make up for his shortage of chips.

Day 4 of the poker tournament started on a fast pace, and players began to fall on the very first level. Andras Nemeth, a previous chip leader, became the first casualty of the day. Relegated to a short stack, the Hungarian shoved all in on an A,Ko against Mike McDonald’s pocket Js and proceeded to hit a pair of As on the flop. The turn was another J though and Nemeth picked up €18,400 for his 24th place finish.

The next two victims all bore the handiwork of Bruno Fitoussi, who hit sets to eliminate them. Hugo Lemaire had his pocket Ks cracked by Jake Cody to head to the payout queue. This pot turned out to be the largest pot of the tournament, at least up until that point.
Those shoving all-in on pocket pairs proved to be peculiarly unlucky on day 4. First, David Morante lost his last few chips on pocket7s, then Bruno Fitoussi got bounced while holding pocket Js.
Freddy Deeb, who had been one of the short-stacks on day 3, his cash finish looking doubtful, made it all the way to 12th place against all the odds. Alexia Portal found herself one of the short-stacks and quickly proceeded to double up courtesy of Mike McDonald. She then dropped most of her stack to Craig Bergeron, and busted out soon after.
On the final table bubble, Bertrand Grospellier ran his A,Qo into Caraba’s pocket rockets and hit the rail in 9th to set the official final table.
