EPT Deauville Main Event – Day 3 Report

The 3rd day of the EPT Deauville Main Event saw 154 players return to the tables of the Casino Barriere. A total of 5 levels of action were squeezed into the day, at the end of which only 51 players were left standing. The player to finish the day with the biggest stack was Shadaf Hadaya, who accumulated 1.23 million chips. Matthieu Herve ended up in second place, with a little over 1 million chips to his name.
Day 3 of the poker tournament carried special weight, because of the money-bubble which was bound to be reached. With 120 places paid, no fewer than 34 of those who returned at the beginning of the day, would go home empty-handed. Given the high concentration of “name” players in the starting field, it was inevitable that some of the 34 less fortunate players be from among the high profile crowd. Thus, Steve O’Dwyer, PokerStars’ Vanessa Rousso and Dermot Blain all bit the dust with nothing to show for their efforts.

The unfortunate bubble-boy of the poker tournament was Said Basri, who was bounced in 121st place. Basri didn’t exactly get his last chips into the middle in a good spot: he got called by no fewer than 4 players. Everyone checked the board down all the way to keep Basri’s odds as low as possible. Of the 4 hands involved, David Susigan’s As, 5s was the one that took home the pot, leaving Basri with the wooden spoon.
With the min-cash safely secured, the pace of eliminations picked up some momentum again. The first player to bite the dust within the money was Marion Nedellec. Others who followed her to the rail were Sandra Naujoks and Matthias De Meulder. Sam Grafton and James Bills were two of the notables who survived.
