The EPT’s Deauville Main Event went into the books on Monday evening as Vadzim Kursevich, start of the day second in chips, rose to the top grabbing the bragging rights, the trophy and the €875k top prize.
The first victim of the final table was start of the day short stack Mick Graydon. Graydon managed to hang on for a couple of hours before being forced to shove all-in, holding an A,9o. He was called by Paul Guichard who had an A,Ko. The board didn’t hit either starting hand and Graydon was sent to the payout booth.
Pokerstars’ Luca Pagano had been struggling during the previous day and his woes continued on the final day. He simply couldn’t get any traction and he faded away in 7th place, at the hands of Vuong Than Trong , whose pocket 9s got the better of his A,Jo on a brick-laden board.
The next elimination happened about 3.5 hours later. Olivier Rogez called a short-stack all-in with a J,3o, but Paul Guichard tagged along as well, with pocket Ks no less. No help came on the board for Rogez and he was eliminated in 6th.
Bruno Jais bit the dust in 5th place, sent to the rail by Vuong Than Trong.
After the dinner break, Kursevich picked up a huge pot from Than Trong, clinching the chip lead and following up by putting his big stack to work against everyone else left at the table.
Yorane Kerignard was his first victim. Than Trong followed, his K,10 no match for Kursevich’s Ac,Jc on another bricked-out board.
Than Trong’s elimination signaled the beginning of the heads-up stage between Kursevich and Guichard. Kursevich held a pretty impressive chip lead over his opponent at the beginning of the heads-up bout, but Guichard wouldn’t go down without a fight. He stormed back to even things out, and then suddenly it was all over. The final hand of the
poker tournament saw Kursevich’s 6h, 3h triumph over Guichard’s pocket 5s in a straight over set affair.
