EPT London Main Event – Day 1A Report

The first day 1 flight of the
European Poker Tour’s London Main Event kicked off on Monday, with 236 players bellying up to the tables of the Grosvenor Victoria Casino. The buy-in was a massive €5,250 one, but it apparently did not deter the legions of players who wanted a piece of the equally generous prize-pool. 131 players remained in contention at the end of the day. A total of 8 levels of action went into the day, at the end of which Canada’s Marc-Andre Ladouceur emerged with the chip lead, behind a stack of 163.5k chips. Ladouceur, who has already cashed for €300k during the EPT’s 9th season, adopted an extremely aggressive approach from the get-go. He bullied those unfortunate enough to be seated at his table, and everyone who tried to stand up to him ended up obliterated. One person who tried to stop Ladouceur was Marvin Rettenmaier, who shoved all-in against him holding a set on the river of a hand in which the Canadian had already secured a flush on the turn. That hand gave Ladouceur a massive thrust and he never looked back.
Antonio Matias was another player who had an excellent day 1A. He finished the day with 141k chips to his name. Many of his chips came from Toni Judet, a
PokerStars pro who fell to Matias. Other players who finished near the top of the pops were: Timothy Davie, Michel Dattani and Pierre Neuville.
Although he didn’t finish among the large-stacks, Luke Schwartz advanced too, together with Theo Jorgensen. Other high profile players who advanced were Alex Kravchenko, Marcin Horecki, Luca Pagano and Johnny Lodden.
Liv Boeree and Vanessa Selbst played too and they both advanced. They will be joined on Day 2 by Leo Margets and Annette Obrestad.
