EPT London Main Event – Day 3 Report

113 players returned to the tables of the Victoria Grosvenor Casino, looking to play past the money bubble on Day 3 of the Season 9 EPT’s London Main Event. Only 5 levels of action went into the day this time, at the end of which only 32 players were left standing. The player to clinch the chip lead was Pasi Sormunen, who amassed a stack of 1.57 million chips. In close second, Niall Farrell was sitting on a stack of 1.51 million chips. The rest of the field fell further behind: Nicolas Chouity was third, with 1.14 million chips to his name.
The start of the day featured a rather tense stand-off, as those returning to the tables found themselves only 17 places away from the money bubble. Before a guaranteed payday was reached through, several notables hit the rail, with nothing to show for their efforts but the proverbial wooden spoon. Teddy Sheringham was among those eliminated during this stretch. He hit the sidelines, together with Marcel Luske and Griffin Benger.
Sheringham woke up with a pair of 9s in his pocket and he committed the last of his chips on them preflop. He was called by Pasi Sormunen, who had an A,K for the classic coin-flip. Sormunen proceeded to make a Broadway straight on the turn for the pot and the elimination.

PokerStars’ Jason Mercier almost bowed out shortly before the money bubble too. He locked horns with Mathias Tikerpe, pushing all-in with an A,Q against the latter’s pocket Qs. An Ace fell on the river to bail him out though, so he made it into the money eventually. He managed to survive the day, in possession of a stack of 309k chips. The start of the day chip leader, Mike McDonald made the final 32 too.
