EPT London Main Event – Day 5 Report

The 5th day of the EPT’s London Main Event saw the field play down to the final table. 16 players returned to the tables at the beginning of the day, fully aware that only every second one of them would get to return for the home stretch of the poker tournament: the final table. David Yan started the day with the biggest stack, and as such, with the best mathematical odds to make the final table. Having the best odds is far from a guarantee though, and as Yan found out, they do not exclude various things going wrong.
The first player to go was Neophytos Neophytou, the official short-stack at the beginning of the day. He put his chips into the middle on the first decent starting hand he picked up and he was bounced. Spain’s Javier Etayo got off to a much better start, picking up pocket rockets and doubling up with them.

Kent Roed of Norway attempted to do the very same, having picked up pocket rockets. He got called by Kully Sindhu who had pocket Ks and it did look like the Norwegian would indeed fulfill his plan. Running spades hit the board though, giving his opponent a flush and leaving him clutching but a few rickety chips. He was eliminated shortly afterwards.
Georgios Karakousis seemed to play only big pots through Day 5, and at the end of one of these pots, he managed to send one of the previous chip leaders, Tudor Purice, packing.
Karakousis was the one who knocked out start of the day chip leader David Yan too: Yan pushed all-in holding an A,2x against Karakousis’ pocket Qs which held.

The final table bubble-boy was Martin Kozlov, another early chip leader, who was bounced in 9th place by Stefan Vagner, in a classic Q,Q vs A,A showdown.
