EPT Loutraki – Day 3 Report

100 players returned on day 3 of the EPT’s Loutraki’s Main Event with one thing on their mind: to make it past the money bubble. PokerStars’ Toni Judet was the one who started the day with the chip lead, but he didn’t exactly have a good run and even though he managed to survive, he sunk back into the field. Fellow PokerStars pro Jude Ainsworth managed to make it past the day too. Anna Marquez and Johnny Lodden on the other hand failed to advance.
Local player Charalampos Kapernopoylos finished the day in the lead. He had accumulated 892.5k chips.

Kapernopoylos’ rise to the top was a spectacular one: he got there by eliminating two ex-EPT champs: Kevin MacPhee and David Vamplew. Vamplew was the first to fall at the hands of the Greek: he tried to pull off an all-in bluff and got picked off by Kapernopoylos, who had a top pair. MacPhee had a more then decent hand though: he had rivered a flush, but the Greek had him covered with a boat and thus his tournament came to an end too.
Ruper Elder, another ‘name’ pro, did well: for some time he held the chip lead, which he acquired through the elimination of Dobromir Nikov. Elder had flopped a nut flush in the hand which was to be Nikov’s last and fired out a huge bet on the river, which Nikov called. The hand gave Elder’s stack a huge boost, but he dropped some chips later, running an A,K into pocket rockets and he eventually finished off the pace set by the front-runners.
Roman Makhlin’s elimination signaled the bursting of the money bubble. Makhlin shoved all-in on a pair of Ks but he got called by Christopher Lastiwka, who had A,K for the classic coin-flip. The flop landed an A right away, and Makhlin’s tournament life was over.
Mario Puccini and Julian Herold were also among the day’s survivors.
