EPT Loutraki Main Event is in the books, and Zimnan Ziyard is the winner. The Brit took down the €347k top prize, besting Hauke Heseding heads-up.
8 players returned on the final day of the event, set to play down to a winner. Ziyard had the largest stack , while Andras Kovacs was the official final table short-stack. Kovacs only had around 10 BBs in his stack, but he managed to double up early. Mario Puccini was the one responsible for keeping the Hungarian in the running. Puccini then proceeded to lose another all-in when his pocket Ks fell to Charalampos Kapernopoulos pocket rockets. In that hand, the Greek hit four aces to take down the pot.
Kovacs was lurking in the background, and as soon as Kapernopoulos had the chips pushed to his side of the table, he pounced on him and relived him of a good chunk when his pocket 7s ended up flopping a set to beat Kapernopoulos’ A,10o. Massive stacks of chips changed hands several times before the first casualty of the final table hit the rail. Mario Puccini was the one who bit the dust, courtesy of Florian Schlep. Puccini picked up €27k for his 8th place finish.
Puccini’s demise seemed to have broken the ice: almost immediately after his elimination, Kapernopoulos was sent to the rail too.
About an hour later, Andras Kovacs was eliminated too, following the biggest pot of the event up to that point. He had an Ad, Kd against Heseding’s pocket Qs and – though he almost made a flush – he failed to improve.
Pierre Mothes was bounced next, followed by Schleps and then by John Taramas, the last Greek player left in the field.
Heads-up play saw plenty of lead changes as Heseding and Ziyard battled it out. Eventually, Ziyard busted a bluff from Heseding to put an end to the hostilities. Heseding picked up €221.8k for his efforts.
