EPT Madrid – Day 1B Report

The second day 1 flight of the EPT’s Madrid stop attracted an astonishing number of players, especially in light of the relatively modest day 1A turn-out of 125. No fewer than 352 players flocked to the tables, prompting the organizers to put an extra room into use to accommodate all registrants.
This way, the total starting field for the event reached the 477 mark. The total prize-pool shot to €2.3 million, with first place picking up the lion’s share of €545k.

8 levels of action were squeezed into the day, at the end of which 197 players were left standing. The one with the largest stack was Juan Navarrete, who managed to amass 173.2k chips, taking the overall chip lead in the poker tournament.
A whole bunch of Navarrete’s chips came from none other than Steve o’Dwyer, who ran his pocket queens into Navarrete’s pocket Ks when the latter had about 150k chips in his stack. The loss left O’Dwyer with only 2k chips to his name.
David Benyamine and Ilan Boujenah had excellent days too. They both finished near the top too (in 3rd and 2nd places respectively), on more than healthy stacks.
Team PokerStars Pro members Angel Guillen and Nicolas Levi finished with large stacks too. The two of them may have been the highest finishing PokerStars pros, but they were definitely not the only PokerStars sponsored players who survived Day 1B: Nacho Barbero managed to accumulate almost 100k chips too. Johnny Lodden survived as well, albeit on a tad shorter stack of 86k chips. Mikhail Shalamov made the cut too, together with Fatima Moreira de Melo and Juan Manuel Pastor (the last two finished with rather short-ish stacks).

Because of the high concentration of ‘name’ competitors, plenty of them had to bite the dust so that the above listed could advance. Victor Ramdin was bounced, together with Mickey Petersen, Eugene Katchalov and Richard Toth.
