EPT Madrid – Day 3 Report

The third day of the €5.3k Main Event of the EPT Madrid saw 112 players return to the tables out of a total of 477 initial starters. The goal for the day was to play past the money bubble and – if possible – to play down to the final 24. The money bubble was reached within the first couple of hours, but by that time scores of ‘name’ players had already hit the rail.
David Benyamine, Joep Van den Bijgaart and Yorane Kerignard were all among those eliminated before the money bubble.
The bubble-boy turned to be none other than McLean Karr. Karr picked up a pair of 5s during hand-to-hand play and he put all his remaining chips into the middle on them. Unfortunately for him, Javier Etayo woke up with pocket 10s and made the call. The board hit none of the two hands involved, Karr was eliminated, and the money bubble was out of the way of the remaining 72 players.

With the money bubble off the radar, the pace of eliminations gathered momentum yet again. A slew of ‘name’ players hit the rail in its wake: Barny Boatman, Dermot Blain, Olivier Busquet and Melanie Weisner were all sent to the rail during that stretch.
Kenny Hallaert was bounced too, and he made good use of the extra time with which he suddenly woke up: he played in the $1 Rebuy Micro Millions event, finishing 2nd and collecting $12k+ for his efforts.

The Team PokerStars pros who had made it to day 3 had a pretty rough run. Angel Guillen was eliminated short of the money and Johnny Lodden barely managed to sneak into a small payday himself. Henrique Pinho lasted a few more hands but eventually his tournament was ended as well. The deepest-finishing PokerStars pro was Alex Kravchenko, who made it all the way to 35th place before he bowed out too.
Joao Paulo Simao was the one who finished the day with the largest stack.
