EPT Monte Carlo €25k High Roller – Day 1 Report

The EPT’s Monte Carlo stop is about much more than the Main Event. Those who can afford it, stand to win fabulous prizes in events like the €25k High Roller. The above said event kicked off on Sunday. Its first day saw 10 levels of action logged, at the end of which Andrew Badecker emerged with the chip lead. Badecker managed to amass 350k chips.
Given the size of the buy-in, the organizers were in for quite a surprise when no fewer than 117 players decided to take their chances in the event. There were 16 re-buys as well, which meant that the eventual prize-pool would consist of no fewer than 133 buy-ins. At the end of the day, there were fewer than 50 players still standing, but given the number of high profile professionals who took to the felt, the quality of the remaining field was still nothing short of stellar.

Badecker may have clinched the lead, but he can definitely not feel safe at the top. The one breathing down his neck is none other than Vincent Van Der Fluit, who managed to build a stack of 341.2k chips. Sami Kelopuro is in hot pursuit as well, in third place with 310k chips to his name.
Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius finished the first day on healthy stacks too. Justin Bonomo, who had been bounced from the Main Event a Day earlier, finished with a nice stack as well. Others who did well were Faraz Jaka, Bryn Kenney and Chris Moorman.

Team PokerStars Pro brought all the big guns to bear in this event: Daniel Negreanu was there, together with Liv Boeree, Max Lykov and David Williams. All these players made the cut, but some of their teammates like Bertrand Grospellier, Jason Mercier and Alex Kravchenko didn’t.
Eugene Katchalov almost made it, falling just short of the final hand of the day.

I do like the way you have framed this pluticraar challenge and it does provide us some fodder for thought. However, from everything that I have witnessed, I just hope as the feed-back pack on that individuals stay on point and not embark on a tirade of some other news du jour. Still, thank you for this excellent piece and although I do not really agree with this in totality, I regard the perspective.
