EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final – Day 1 is in the Books

The first day of the EPT’s season 10 Monte Carlo Main Event wrapped up with the second of its two day 1 flights yesterday. Day 1B saw 300 players belly up to its tables initially, but new registrants filed in through the day, so at the end of it all, Day 1B’s final tally was 427. That took the total number of players to 641, which means that last year’s starting field of 531 has already been left in the dust, and with registration open till the beginning of day 2, the difference is likely to increase.

A total of 8 levels of action went into the day, at the end of which Germany’s Hendrik Latz emerged with the largest stack and the overall chip lead. Latz had 191.6k chips bagged. Others who finished with similarly impressive stacks were Davidi Kitai (173.1k chips) and Vladimir Troyaovskiy, who had 172k bagged.

There was no shortage of “name” competitors at the tables. PokerStars’s Daniel Negreanu played, together with Barry Greenstein, Eugene Katchalov, Johnny Lodden and Ivan Demidov, among scores of others.
Full Tilt Poker’s Viktor Blom played as well, together with Phil Ivey, Scott Seiver, Sam Trickett and John Juanda.
Interestingly, Blom played at the same table with Johnny Lodden and Annette Obrestad, and even more interestingly, all three of them managed to make it through the day.
Phil Ivey made it through the day as well. He apparently elected to stay out of trouble, yet he kept adding to his stack through small pots the entire day. He eventually finished with 50.8k chips.
Liv Boeree on the other hand played loosely, and she ended up bitten by the high variance: she finished with just 6.2k chips to her name.
PokerStars is online poker’s best destination for major live event qualifiers, like the EPT’s Monte Carlo Grand Final main event.
