A total of 5 levels of action went into the 3rd day of the
EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final Main Event. 34 players survived the day, with Johnny Lodden leading the way into Day 4. Lodden started the day behind the largest stack, and he retained his position at the end of the day, having skillfully taken advantage of his position.
He finished with more than 1.2 million chips, quite a stretch ahead of second place man Steve O’Dwyer, who had 963k chips bagged.
The pro-heavy nature of the tournament wasn’t belied by the makeup of the top 10 at the end of day 3 either. Andrew Pantling finished 3rd, with 943k chips, followed by John Juanda in 4th, with 939k. Noah Schwartz and Jason Mercier held on to their top 10 spots too, finishing the day in 7th and 8th places respectively.
PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu wrapped up the top 10, having built a stack of 684k chips.
The big objective of the day was obviously the money-bubble for all those involved. Set for 80th place, it took the field quite a bit of time to reach it as hand-for-hand action alone lasted for more than 30 minutes. Eventually, the last player to bite the dust without anything to show for his efforts in the event was Chad Brown, who was eliminated in 82nd place. Taylor Paur and David Vamplew hit the rail together, slitting the 80th place prize-money and leaving all the other players in the money.
Paur was eliminated by Oleksii Kovalchuk, while Vamplew hit the rail courtesy of Calvin Anderson.
Quite a number of PokerStars pros made it through Day 3. Besides Negreanu, Jake Cody, Ville Wahlbeck and Victor Ramdin advanced as well. Paul Volpe, Freddy Deeb and Noah Boeken will be back on Day 4 too.
