The second day 1 flight of the
EPT’s Prague Main Event saw 528 players belly up to the tables. Being the final day 1 flight of the
poker tournament, Day 1B set the record straight in regards to the final starting field and the prize-pool: a total of 864 players coughed up the buy-in, a significant increase from last year’s 722-player starting field. The eventual winner of the event would take home a €835k prize, much more than last season’s winner of the same event, Martin Finger, who became €720k richer.
A total of 8 levels of action went into day 1B, at the end of which Vadim Belov emerged with the chip lead but only by a hair: he managed to amass a stack of 179.3k chips, while the second place man, Luis Rodriguez, finished with 176.7k chips to his name.
Rodriguez had a great start to his day and for a while there, he looked like he was indeed going to finish the day in the lead. He took a massive pot off Makarios Avramidis, which fuelled his efforts for a while, but he lost some chips towards the end of the day, falling to second.
Byron Kaverman and Martin Hruby were both considered favorites to make deep runs in the event, but they both fell. The hand which claimed both their tournament lives was the definition of a perfect hand. They both flopped sets and they were both outdone by a third player’s straight.
Team
PokerStars Pro enjoyed massive representation in the event: no fewer than 14 players wearing the PokerStars patch played. Of them, Dario Minieri, Luca Pagano and Dag Palovic all busted out. Others were more successful: Juan Manuel Pastor, Johnny Lodden and Ana Marquez managed to have their day 2 tickets punched.
