EPT San Remo – Day 1B report

Day 1B of the EPT’s San Remo Main event saw 549 players cough up the €5k buy-in. After 9 levels of action, around half the starting field was disposed of, the other half led by PokerStars Ruben Visser into Day 2. Visser managed to accumulate more than 250k chips, enough to place him into the overall chip lead, ahead of Nicholas Chouity.
Visser’s big break came in a hand in which he had pocket Qs against an opponent’s A,K. Despite the fact that an A landed on the board, Visser made a flush to take down the pot.
He won another monster pot later to really pull away from the competition.

Last year’s winner, Liv Boeree was unlucky enough to land at a tough table, despite the fact that the EPT San Remo stop is considered to be much looser than most of the other stops. She had to deal with several skilled professionals like Lex Weldhuis and Jonathan Duhamel. She eventually busted out taking the rest of the notorious cast with her.
Bertrand Grospellier didn’t fare any better either. Michael Tureniec and Evelyn Ng were both bounced as well.
Kevin MacPhee got his last chips into the middle on a straight against an opponent’s set of 9s, on the flop, but unfortunately for him, the board paired, giving his opponent a full house and sending him to the rail.

Among those who did well, Vanessa Selbst stood out through the impressive amount of aggression she doled out left and right at her table. Nobody really felt like tangling with her, so she kept adding to her stack to finish among the front runners when the action was called. Joe Cada and Victor Ramdin played well too. Other players to survive were Terrence Chan, Carter Phillips, Roberto Romanello and Ted Forrest.
