EPT San Remo – Day 3 report

The 3rd day of the
EPT San Remo stop saw 194 players return to the tables, led by Dmitry Selmak. The day’s hostilities lasted for 5 levels, at the end of which 66 players were still left standing. Jakob Karsson took over the chip lead from the Russian, having amassed a stack of 1.8 million chips.
With the money bubble set to 184th place, the early action was a bit tight as nobody was in a hurry to attempt a do or die double up. 10 players needed to go before the money would come into the picture though, and there was no second way about that. Kelly Kim was one of the 10 players who left the tables of the Casino San Remo empty handed. Antonio Maranzano was the one responsible for his elimination. Vittorio Fiume almost became the bubble boy when he shoved all-in on his pocket Ks on the bubble and got called by Miltiadis Kyriakidea who had A,K. As it so often happens, the A which fell on the flop seemed to have burst the bubble, but Fiume caught a K on the turn to squeeze right past the money bubble. The eventual bubble boy was Cole Robinson, who got pushed out of the
poker tournament by Michael Piper’s pocket rockets.
He was a good enough sport to pose for pictures before heading to the rail.
Bertrand Grospellier has a great start to his Day 3, but lost steam towards the bubble. He dropped a key hand to Kadir Karabulut and he never managed to recover from the hit. He dragged his crippled stack along for two more hours after the bubble-hurdle was cleared, but eventually he got felted. His chips were put to great use by Karabulut though, who kept adding to his stack past the bubble and eventually finished with 1,577,000 chips to clinch second place for the day.
Peter Hedlund and Steven Gross also made it to the money, but they both failed to survive the day.
PokerStars’ Jason Mercier and Thomas Bichon followed them to the rail.
Liv Boree, Michael Abecassis and Allan Baekke made it to day 4 though, together with Dmitry Selmak who retained his large stack status by finishing in 4th place.
