EPT San Remo – Day 4 report

66 players returned to the green felt of the Casino Municipale in San Remo to do battle until only 24 would be left for day 5. The goal was not an overly ambitious one, and sure enough, it was reached in a mere few levels of play. At the end of the day, it was Allan Baekke who had the chip lead, having amassed a stack of more than 3.4 million chips. Already a proven EPT veteran (on account of his
EPT Snowfest win) Baekke is certainly making a bid for a second title in San Remo. Two consecutive wins on his part would certainly set a new EPT record.
Baekke wasted no time in getting his stack off the ground on Day 4. He tangled with Fabrizio Ascari during the very first orbit. Baekke made his move on a flop of Qh,3c,Jh, holding Kc, Qc. Ascari had Ah, Kh for the nut flush draw. Baekke had a whole bunch of outs to dodge, and he did just that to win the hand. That represented a significant addition to his stack, one that set him onto the right course for the day.
He was responsible for the final elimination too. He sent Gijs Verheien to the rail on a K,K vs A,J match-up to close out the day in the chip lead.
Dermot Blain has a pretty good day too. He had an above average stack pretty much all day long, and so did Dmitry Stelmak, who’s in a good spot to chase down Baekke on Day 5.
Paul Berende is still in contention as well and so is
Ultimate Bet’s Liv Boeree who may yet have a word to say in the outcome of the poker tournament. Claudio Rinaldi and Atanas Gueorguiev both made it through too, albeit on short stacks that may not guarantee them any time on Day 5.
Joe Serock was one of the victims of the day. He got it all-in early holding Q,Q, against Matthias de Meulder’s pocket 10s, but PokerStars’ player made a straight to send him to the rail.
Alfio Battisti, Michel Abecassis and Nick Schulman all made trips to the rail on Day 4. De Meulder, the last
PokerStars pro, existed the poker tournament towards the end of the day too.
