The second Day 1 flight of the EPT’s San Remo Main Event did not disappoint. While Day 1A saw 320 players belly up to the tables, the organizers were certain the day 1B yield would dwarf that number. Sure enough, no fewer than 477 showed up on Day 1B. The total starting field thus reached 797 players, creating a prize-pool of €3.86 million. 120 players will have something to show for their efforts at the end of the hostilities, and the winner’s share of the loot is slated to be €800k.
At the end of eight levels of action, 270 players remained in contention. Sam Trickett was the player who finished the day behind the largest stack of chips: he accumulated 178k chips to clinch the top spot.
The Day 1B participants wasted no time jumping into the middle of the action. The first elimination of the day saw Andrey Zaichenko’s pocket As cracked by Andrii Nadieliaiev’s pocket Ks. The interesting thing about this hand was that Day 1A’s first elimination came at the end of a similar match-up, although that time, the chips were all in the middle before the flop fell.
Given the star-studded nature of the day’s starting field, it came as no surprise that there were than a handful of ‘name’ players among the casualties.
Antonio Esfandiari busted out, together with Davidi Kitai, McLean Karr, Faraz Jaka, Chance Kornuth and Tobias Reinkemaier. Team
PokerStars Pro incurred quite a few casualties as well. Flag-carrier Bertrand Grospellier bit the dust, together with Richard Toth, Vanessa Rousso, Daniel Negreanu and Alex Kravchenko. Chris Moneymaker on the other hand played well and he managed to finish the day with a decent stack. Justin Bonomo had an excellent day as well: he finished 3rd with 152.2k chips to his name. Moneymaker finished 10th with 125.3k chips.
Others who advanced on lesser stacks were Pius Heinz, Johnny Lodden, Chris Brammer, Shaun Deeb and Steve O’Dwyer.
