EPT Snowfest – Day 3 report

Posted by: James Carter. - Sat, 2010-03-27 01:07

86 players remained in contention for Day 3 of the EPT Snowfest Main Event. With the money bubble set for 80th, trigger fingers were pretty itchy at the start of the day. PokerStars own Johannes Strassman started the third day of the poker tournament with the largest stack of chips. Hungary’s Richard Toth was second, followed by Maxim Lykov in 3rd. None of these chip leaders would be anywhere near the new Day 3 chip leader at the end of the day though. Allan Baekke had an excellent Day 3 run, to accumulate a stack of 2,687,000 chips, which nobody could even approach, let alone match.

The money bubble burst about half an hour into the day, as PokerStars’ Luis Medina and Alfio Battisti both fell outside of the money. Battisti became the official bubble boy of the poker tournament, when his pocket rockets were cracked by Evgeniy Zaytsev’s pocket 3s, which proceeded to hit a flush (you have to hate it when that happens…). Allan Baekke’s rise to the top of the provisional leader board saw an early start. The bubble hadn’t even burst when he’d already doubled up against Casper Toft. It was a particularly nasty beat for Toft, who had flopped two pair for his big slick, only to see it all go up in smoke against Baekke’s set of 8s. That pot would only be the start of Baekke’s run though. He scored numerous other monster pots, culminating with the A,A vs K,K match-up he had against Paul Valkenburg at the end of the day.

Jesper Hougaard and Lex Veldhuis both had gut churning rollercoaster rides, and unfortunately for them, they both finished in a valley: Veldhuis’ pocket rockets got cracked, his A,J was blown to smithereens and finally his pocket 4s were swept aside by Samuel Miller’s QQ.
Hougaard got his set of Js beaten by Baekke, then he had his A,Q taken out by Russel Carson’s pocket rockets for the bust.

Alex Kravchenko and Julien Brecard survived the money bubble but they failed to get any traction past it and bowed out shortly.
Johanness Strassman – though no longer behind the largest stack – will return for Day 4. Richard Toth, Nasr El Nasr and Jim Collopy will be back too.
