EPT Tallinn – Day 1B Report

As expected, day 1B of the
EPT Tallinn stop drew a much larger field of registrants than day 1A. 190 players coughed up the buy-in, among them a young Spaniard, whose monster stack at the end of the day would give him the overall chip lead in the tournament.
Oscar Lima was a rather inconspicuous presence at the tables through the day, but he broke out of the shell towards the end of it. He eventually finished the day with a stack of 132k chips, more than that of the day 1A chip leader. The Tallinn Event marked Lima’s first ever EPT venture.
The pro-heavy nature of the starting field was reflected in the end-of-the-day standings too. Finland’s Jani Sointula finished second. Sointula started well straight out of the gates, and his 30k stack had already swollen to 77k by the end of the second blind level. When the day was called, Sointula had 123k chips in front of him. Although he is indeed a seasoned tournament veteran, Sointula hasn’t yet won an EPT event. He did finish second in the EPT’s London High Roller event in 2010, bested heads-up by PokerStars’ Nacho Barbero.
A total of 60 players found their way to the rail on Day 1B, with nothing but the proverbial wooden spoon to show for their efforts. On Day 2, the survivors of the two day 1 flights will come together in a single starting field of 198 players.
Many ‘name’ pros from Team
PokerStars pro will be among the day 2 players: Dario Minieri made the cut, together with Ville Wahlbeck and JP Kelly.
Richard Toth, Arnaud Mattern and Marcin Horecki are three of the pros returning from the Day 1 flight.
At the end of the second day 1 flight, the total prize-pool came to light: according to officials, those to finish in the money will share €1,071,600. That guarantees a min cash of €6.5k and €275k for the winner.
